Like all forums, we have rules. Failure to obey them will result in a warning, repeated offenses will earn you a IP ban.
General
- First and foremost, this site is PG-13 due to Proboards Terms of Service.
That being said, adult themes, profane language, and violence are all expected parts of role play and those who are sensitive to such things should avoid this forum. Sexually explicit content is NOT permitted and will result in an immeadiate ban. - Be Polite to Everyone.
Respect your fellow roleplayers. Everyone is here to have fun and a bully ruins everyone's day. - Do not take that which doesn't belong to you.
Some of the graphics, plot ideas, and other things are only meant to be used at Invictum Weyr. Please respect their creators wishes and do not post them anywhere else. That being said, there are quite a few graphics that can be used anywhere. If you have a question on whether you can use something off site or not it is best to ask the creator, or, if you do not know the creator, PM an admin. - Do not stretch the forum.
We have such a pretty skin, don't ruin it for everyone by making your Avatar or Sig image enormous.
Avatars can be a max of 200 x 100
and Signature images 250 x 400
If you require help to resize your images, make a post in the Graphics board requesting assistance. People are helpful!
Registration
- We do not care what username you sign up with.
As long as it is not vulgar or inappropriate, feel free to use whatever you want. Your first account should be your OOC account, which must be used for all of your nonroleplay posts. Your Cbox username should remain the same as your OOC Account username to avoid confusion. - "Persona" accounts for each character are mandatory.
You must create a new account for each character you make. All RP posts for that character should be posted on that account and that account only. All persona accounts should contain a note in the signature telling the OOC account of who plays that character, (IE: Tanis rider of gold Aurumth played by Bloody) as well as a link to the character's profile.
Roleplay
- You must be literate to roleplay here.
We are an intermediate to advanced roleplay site, what that means is that some thought must be put into your IC posts.
We have a two paragraph minimum. No one should ever be posting one-liners. There is so much to describe, talk about how your character feels, what's around them. A good rule is to stay within 200-500 words of the other people in the thread - that way you are all writing roughly the same amount for one another!
Proofread your posts. You don't have to be a literature major, but don't write like a first grader. Everyone makes mistakes, hell, these rules probably are riddled with typos and grammatical errors and I am a lit major! Despite that, you should make an serious effort to spell correctly and use proper grammar. Many browsers have built in spellcheckers, so there is little excuse for horrible spelling.
Capitalize things that should be; names and locations, etc. Speech should be put into quotations (" ") and bold, while thoughts should be put into apostrophes (' ') and italicized -- text colors and formats are up to you, just make sure it is easily legible against the board's backdrop.
No netspeak. Ever. No one wants to RP with someone who types out:
"L'ard loled as his dwagon rulled around rofling."
Much more acceptable is:
"L'ard clutched his stomach laughing as his green dragonet rolled on the ground, flapping damp wings and trying to rid itself of the itching that plagued it's body."
Though it is debatable how good of a name L'ard is for a dragonrider. - No Godmoding.
Imagine you are the roleplayer of L'ard, you are in the midst of a fight with D'ath. D'ath's player posts:
"L'ard collapsed from pain as D'ath's sword sliced into his shoulder."
What is the problem here? It's well written, everything spelled right, so what's wrong? Well, first off, D'ath player took control of another persons character when he wrote that L'ard collapsed. This is godmoding, and is perhaps the single most frustrating thing to be the victim of in a RP. You can only control your character and your character only.
The second issue is only important in fight threads, when D'ath wrote out his attack. He assumed it automatically hit - this is a RP no-no. Autohits are frowned upon, as other player's like to be given a chance to dodge or parry the blow. Attacks should be written as if you are attempting to wound, not as if you already wounded.
Let's fix D'ath's post.
"D'ath aimed a quick thrust at his rival's shoulder, seeking to compound L'ard's wounds and overcome his adversary."
This is better, as L'ard is given a chance to explain in his post how he could avoid the attack and D'ath does not control L'ard at all. - Stay in-character in your roleplay posts.
If we notice your character going way off from their application we may PM you about it -- characters grow and change over time, but if your character is described as a shy person who doesn't drink and the first post you make is them getting drunk and being the center of attention -- we will have a problem with that. - Make certain what your doing fits with the Pern Universe.
Your character isn't going to be riding around on a scooter shooting a laser gun in the air. Technology is limited -- roughly medieval. You do not have to be a walking Pern encyclopedia but you have to have some knowledge of what you're going to RP. Read the books! They are wonderful.
Characters
- All characters must have a visual representation.
You may face claim a real person; be they celebrity, musician, or guy down the street (though that's kinda creepy); or a use a drawing to represent your character. You may not however, use a drawing that you do not have permission to use. This means that under no circumstance are you allow to make L'ard the greenrider look like Naruto! We allow people to use both faceclaim and drawings so as not to restrict creativity, create your own characters. Faceclaims should be kept fairly rustic looking (Modern clothing is okay, just no bright pink hair or anything like that), no making Nicki Minaj the face of your rider...
Dragons must also have a visual representation, you may use any drawing you wish (I suppose you could use a photo, good luck finding one though! *bricked for sarcasm*) though you are welcome to use the default images in the Dragon Colors thread if they match up well enough. - Mary Sue and her brother Gary are not welcome.
You know what I mean, no character is perfect, the imperfect ones are much more fun to play anyway. Do not be afraid to make bad guys! Do not be afraid to make stupid characters! - All Characters will follow naming conventions.
Female riders names do not change, however every male who impresses a dragon will have their name shortened to the traditional format. Though you may chose your shortened name, no one wants their awesome rider Baluratt to be named B'utt, after all. If it's left to me, I will totally name your character B'utt.
Examples:
Leonard would become L'ard.
Patrick would become P'atk.
DEATH would become D'ath.
All dragons will follow the convention of their names ending with -th. If your really stuck, here is a random name generator that will create names for both dragon and rider!
So instead of RPing Leonard and his greendragon Wid, you RP the noble dragonrider L'ard and his green Width!
(Names chosen as examples are not necessarily good names.) - All characters must be posted on the appropriate application and must be accepted.
To keep things organized, everyone must post their characters in the right format. Found here.
When completed, a staff member will come and accept your character. It will then be moved to the appropriate section in the archive. - There is no limit on the number of characters you can have.
You want twenty characters? You can have twenty characters! However, they must be kept reasonably active. - Check and make sure we are currently accepting the type of character you want to make.
We can only have so many bronze and queenriders after all! Sometimes we shut down certain colors to encourage people to make different characters. - Inactive Characters will be Archived in the Graveyard.
Sometimes a character dies, sometimes their player merely poofs - either way. If a character is left completely untouched for two months, with no explanation left by the player. It's profile will be move into the graveyard and the character will be stripped of their rank/replaced.
